Lady Peahen Christmas Trail at Polesden Lacey (National Trust) December 2019
Brief: Paint a double portrait of a Peahen based on a real life bird that lives in the grounds of Polesden Lacey House.
The idea for the childrens trail is that Lady Peahen wants to go to the Christmas Ball at Polesden Lacey House but hasn't got anything to wear. Children follow a trail around the grounds to find various natural materials which could act as Lady Peahen's jewellery.
The first image shows the bird in plain feathers, while the second image shows the bird dressed in all her finery: frosted twigs for a tiara, holly berries in a 3 drop style wih tiny leaf detail for her earrings, a necklace of Christmas Tree pine branches and a cloak/cape of spider web silk embellished with mistletoe berries.
